2012 Dodge Grand Caravan ReviewMar 28th, 2012
The 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan has been around for many years, but this old classic has some new features up its sleeves. New for this year are “one-touch” fold-down seats. They use a simple handle which causes the headrest folds flat, the backrest flips forward and the rear seat anchor unhinges-stowing the seats in seconds. There is also the added creature comfort of heated front and second row seats, say bye-bye to cold bums. The third row 60/40-split bench seat not only stow away extra cargo space but can also be flipped completely backward for comfortable tailgate seating for convenient and quick seating. Want to keep an eye on what’s going on in the back seats? No problem, keep your eye on rear seat passengers with the standard interior conversation mirror.
The exterior of this family cargo hauling machine is anything but soft-looking. As usual with a Dodge vehicle, the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan has the aggressive stance of a lion ready to take off. The signature crosshair front grille, front fascia and quad headlamps. The rear has a sophisticated and sculpted appearance, featuring a spoiler, lifegate assembly, LED taillamps and rear fascia.
There is only one engine option, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine with Best-in-Class Power, 283 lb-feet, six speed automatic transmission. This engine has a decent fuel economy, city: 13.8 (17 MPG) and highway: 9.4 (25 MPG). Not too bad for a soccer mom van!
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Dodge minivan an overall rating of four starts, with an individual five-star rating for side-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Caravan a Top Safety Pick. Standard safety features include mandatory dual front airbags and stability control; curtain airbags extend protection to all three rows of seats. Advanced Safety-New Safety Sphere Group provides segment-exclusive blind spot monitoring/rear cross path detection as well as rain sensitive wiper, automatic headlamps and Park-Sense rear park assist (available).
The 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan has a few awards that proves its purpose in the minivan world. Consumers Digest 2012 Best Buy and it Ranks 6 out of 8 for Minivans by USNEWS.com. If you are looking for an innovative family vehicle that will be more than getting you from point A to point B. It will be fun for the entire family, especially on long hauls.
